Dentistry is a very visual field. When dentists aren’t looking inside mouths, they’re often looking at pictures of them. X-rays are a standard in oral health for a reason. They give dentists a wealth of information about what’s going right and wrong with teeth, jawbones, and more. These important images are ubiquitous and yet so often essential in diagnosing issues and generating treatment plans.
In short: If a picture is worth a thousand words, an X-ray is worth more.
That is part of why Oryx is so excited to be partnering with Overjet to bring AI-powered imaging to our platform. Overjet is one of the most dynamic dental tech companies out there, winning awards and garnering recognition from the industry. They provide an FDA-cleared AI platform that analyzes dental x-rays to:
- Detect decay
- Quantify tooth structure loss
- Enhance diagnostics.
Overjet is a popular choice for dental offices of all types for clinical decision support, documentation, and patient education. We heard from so many customers that they’d love an integration with Overjet, so that’s why we did it.
For all of our existing Pearl users, it’s important to note this move will not affect your usage of their Second Opinion® solution. The addition of Overjet is about enabling choice and flexibility for all the practices we support. If anything, this update echoes the impetus behind our partnership with Pearl: our dental community wants these capabilities, so we’ve responded to make them available.
Oryx’s integration with Overjet is available to customers immediately, with more great features to come.
In this post, we’re walking through three of the most exciting things dental practices can do with Overjet’s integration with Oryx.
1. Increase the Rate of Insurance Reimbursements
Dental practices spend valuable time going back and forth with insurance companies. And all too often, that’s because a claim has been denied due to insufficient, or poor images attached to the submission. When that happens, patients get upset at the delays or the prospect of paying out-of-pocket, and office managers spend valuable time both managing patient expectations and resubmitting information.
With Overjet, Oryx’s customers can streamline insurance reimbursements and even increase the chances of approvals.
Overjet is recognized for providing thorough, clinically accurate AI annotations to images. Because they offer a trusted standard of AI, many insurance carriers automatically approve claims with Overjet images appended—leading to more seamless insurance approvals, a decrease in claim denials, and an increase in claim approvals.

2. Generate Annotations for Panoramic X-Rays
The mouth is a complex environment. In fact, oral health is not just limited to the mouth itself! Jaws, sinuses, and other tissues surrounding the mouth cavity are all interconnected and are important parts of oral health.
While traditional X-rays focus on just one portion of the mouth, such as the teeth, Overjet offers annotations on a panoramic view of the mouth that captures all of the structures mentioned above and more. Dentists can capture the information they need with fewer clicks, which means less discomfort for patients and a more thorough, 360 degree view for the dentist.
Some of the things captured in Overjet’s panoramic X-rays, now conveniently accessible in Oryx, include:
- Abnormalities in the jaw, such as temporomandibular disorders (TMDs)
- Teeth that have become impacted
- Wisdom teeth
- Lesions
- And more
With Overjet’s AI annotations providing valuable context, Oryx’s customers now have convenient, integrated access to next-level X-rays.

3. Treat Patients As Partners in Their Care
Healthcare is a team sport, and patients are not just the people receiving care, they’re partners. The best care happens when patients are active participants in managing their health and choosing the best path forward for treatment.
Look no further than a recent Overjet Patient Survey for proof. The company found that when given visual evidence of their oral health, 85 percent of patients are more likely to accept care, and dentists who use Overjet’s AI to educate patients and present treatment options see a 27 percent jump in acceptance. In short: giving patients information and treating them as partners has benefits for both patients and dentists alike!
With Overjet’s AI annotations, dentists using Oryx can take advantage of these features to educate patients, improve communications, and deliver timely and appropriate treatment.
Inventing the Future of Dentistry
While the software as a service (SaaS) and cloud revolution of the 2010s transformed so many other industries, dentistry, with its nuances and specific needs, has largely been sidelined by generalist solutions.
At Oryx, we’re building the future of the industry—by dentists, for dentistry. We know that with modern, integrated, cloud-native SaaS tools specifically designed for the needs of dentists, practices of all types can deliver world-class, holistic care to patients.
Our new integration with Overjet is proof of this commitment, as we work to partner across the entire dental ecosystem to meet dental practices wherever they are on their digital journey. The future of dentistry is here, shining bright as a healthy smile.
