The Challenge
Open a New Dental Practice with a Tech-Forward Ethos
When Dr. Victor Khatchaturian opened Sunset Dental Studio in 2012, his vision was clear: to create a practice that delivered a modern, technology-forward experience while putting patient comfort first.
In 2020, that vision evolved with a complete remodel, transforming the space into the sleek, modern practice it is today, from its sophisticated design to the technology integrated throughout the patient experience.
Following the remodel, Dr. Jennifer Haddad joined Sunset Dental Studio, bringing her own philosophy of minimally invasive, biomimetic, and cosmetic dentistry to the practice. Together, the two doctors have created an environment where advanced technology, thoughtful design, and highly personalized dentistry come together under one roof.
And then came the need for a dental practice management software (DPMS) platform. Dr. Khatchaturian and Dr. Haddad quickly found that legacy, on-prem DPMS providers were not set up to match the practice’s tech-forward vision. Namely, they only integrated with PCs, not Macs.

Embracing the Cloud with Oryx

In addition to Pearl AI, Sunset Dental Studio leverages Oryx’s native AI Voice Perio Charting across the practice’s four chairs. With hands-free voice dictation and transcription, hygienists call out measurements as they probe and have them uploaded to the patient’s chart in real time. All too often, clinicians fill out patient notes whenever there are gaps in their schedule: over lunch, between school pick up and dinner, or in the evening. By then, hours could have passed in a busy day packed with patient appointments, conversations, and procedures.
With Oryx’s AI Transcribe and Summarize feature, when clinicians go to write up patient notes, there’s a full recording, transcript, and summary waiting for their review. And since these notes are captured in real time, they’re also available to the front desk to reference as soon as the patient reaches checkout, creating a seamless experience onsite.

Dr. Haddad notes that the practice has offered Curodont as a preventive treatment option for early-stage cavities. Usually, this treatment recommendation comes after finding decay on an X-ray. With Pearl AI, she’s able to highlight these findings more easily to patients, who are then more likely to understand the reason behind her recommendation, and accept treatment.

With Oryx, patients complete their paperwork in advance. Before using Oryx’s platform, Sunset Dental Studio booked 1.5 hour appointments and set aside a full 30 minutes for patients to complete their forms.

Because forms are done in advance, the studio also eliminated waiting time in the reception room.
