The Challenge
Launching a dental startup from an existing practice and upgrading from a legacy DPMS
The practice Dr. Klose acquired to launch Naples Dental Boutique ran on Dentrix, a dated legacy platform that lacked the robust clinical features she wanted in order to deliver high-efficiency, high-tech care. As a busy parent and business owner, she also needed to log in after hours to complete charts and communicate with her team, without heading back into the office or troubleshooting IT workarounds for an on-prem server.
And despite purchasing an existing practice, the new location was effectively a startup. Bringing new patients in as painlessly as possible was crucial for success, and busy hour-long appointments had to fit probing, documentation, and patient education without pulling a dental assistant away from their own work.
Starting a “Dream Practice” in Naples, Florida
When Hemita Klose, DMD, sold her dental practice in New York City and moved to Naples, Florida, she’d learned valuable lessons about operating a private dental practice, and she had a clear vision for her next business venture. Working in a high-throughput environment like New York City had taught her efficiency.
Now, as she eyed the opportunity to build another practice from scratch, she wanted to pair that efficiency with beauty and the best patient experience possible. She envisioned an efficient, spa-like environment where patients received excellent care and felt welcomed. In short, she envisioned her “dream practice”: Naples Dental Boutique.
“In New York, my patients were mostly in their twenties to forties, but Naples was an older and more complex demographic, such as retirees or snowbirds. I wanted to create a boutique experience that highlighted technology, such as same-day crowns, and to make the experience as easy as possible.”
Dr. Hemita Klose, DMDFounder and Owner, Naples Dental Boutique
Dr. Klose thought beyond the office location, a custom buildout, and decor to something many dental practices overlook: software. She knew that a dental practice management software (DPMS) platform can make life much easier, or much harder, for dentists and their entire team. And after reviewing Oryx’s approach, she knew Oryx Dental’s all-in-one, AI-powered suite could make her dream office a reality.
Buying to Build: Selecting Software for Success from the Ground Up
To begin her new dental practice, Dr. Klose purchased a retiring prosthodontist’s practice across the street from the new medical building where she planned to build her new practice. The old office was on Dentrix, a legacy platform. This platform didn’t meet Dr. Klose’s needs or match her vision. She and her team found it dated and without the robust clinical features Dr. Klose wanted to deliver high-efficiency, high-tech care to patients.
Quickly, Dr. Klose began looking for a new solution to migrate these records and bring new patients on from day one. As a busy parent and business owner, she wanted something cloud-based that would allow her to log in after hours to complete charts, communicate with the team, and complete work, all without having to head back into the office or troubleshoot complex IT workarounds for an on-prem server.
“Oryx has enabled my practice to grow from the first day we opened our doors, and that growth has only accelerated with the company’s AI features. We’re seeing a strong uptick in production and case acceptance, and we’ve been able to improve productivity in leaps and bounds.”
Dr. Hemita Klose, DMDFounder and Owner, Naples Dental Boutique
Oryx checked all the boxes:
- 24/7 Cloud-Based Access: The entire team could log in flexibly and securely from anywhere, allowing easy communication and up-to-date patient records.
- Painless Patient Scheduling: Patient communication tools, such as chat and text, allowed the team to monitor and respond to patient requests and questions in a timely manner.
- Clinical Core: Strong clinical features ensured that the practice recorded key details for each exam for better care and to protect the practice.
“Because of our older demographic in Naples, having a strong clinical component with a full medical history is crucial. Patients do come in with complex oral histories. Oryx’s clinical features highlight the connection between oral health and overall health, and we’re able to explain things more comprehensively to our patients. I use Oryx’s tools all the time to show patients cavities and educate them on how to take charge of their mouth. Then, when patients improve, we nerd out over it with them.”

Leveraging AI to Scale Quickly
When Oryx debuted the company’s first native AI features in 2025, Dr. Klose signed up as soon as possible. Naples Dental Boutique leverages the full suite of Oryx AI tools, especially the following features:
- Oryx’s native AI Voice Perio Charting
- AI annotations on radiographs via Oryx’s integration with Pearl
- The AI voice receptionist via Oryx’s integration with Mango Voice
These AI features have brought numerous benefits to the practice in terms of efficiency, patient experience, and growth.
Oryx’s Native AI Voice Perio Charting + AI Annotation with Pearl
Using Oryx’s native AI features and integration with AI imaging provider Pearl, Naples Dental Boutique has seen gains in perio production and case acceptance.
“Perio problems don’t hurt, and when they do, it’s too late. Oryx’s AI has given a big bump in our perio production. My hygienist can spend more time building trust with patients and educating them about their oral health.”
Dr. Hemita KloseFounder and Owner, Naples Dental Boutique
The practice’s single hygienist, Robyn Frey, RDH, has embraced AI perio charting and AI radiograph annotations wholeheartedly, allowing the practice to complete probings easily within an hour, leaving more room for follow-up care, and to forgo using a dental assistant in each appointment for note-taking.
“The perio charting system and the AI annotations on radiographs have been phenomenal for saving time and for cutting down on patient education. By hearing and seeing everything clearly, patients understand, connect, and trust us. I don’t have to pull in a dental assistant from doing their job, and we can optimize the patient’s time at that appointment, too.”

THE PERIO HOUR, BEFORE AND AFTER
- Two people per exam: the hygienist probes while a dental assistant is pulled in for note-taking
- Probings race the clock to fit inside the one-hour appointment
- Patients take the provider’s word on what the radiographs show
- Less time left for patient education and follow-up care
- The hygienist completes probing and charting without pulling in a dental assistant
- Probings done easily within the hour, leaving room for follow-up care
- AI annotations make radiograph findings clear for patient education
- Freed-up assistant time lets Dr. Klose run three chairs at once
Within the first six months of using Oryx’s AI annotations, Naples Dental Boutique saw perio production increase 114% and per-patient production grow 42%.
The increased efficiency with each appointment has allowed Dr. Klose to scale her practice thoughtfully. With more happening in each one-hour appointment, the practice has been able to stay on schedule. As a dental assistant isn’t needed in every appointment, Dr. Klose has been able to work three chairs at the same time.
AI Voice Receptionist
The front office used Oryx’s huddle feature and integrated scheduling tools to make each day more efficient. Dr. Klose made the decision to bring in Oryx’s integration with Mango Voice, tapping into the partnership’s AI receptionist feature.
Far from replacing the front office team, the voice receptionist has allowed Dr. Klose’s front office team members to more effectively triage calls, ensure no calls get missed, and focus on what’s immediately in front of them: patients in the office.
“Being able to add voice recordings of incoming patient calls as progress notes in each chart has freed up the front desk to spend more time directly with patients. Also, when it comes to patient concerns or questions, communication between the front desk and clinical staff has improved.”

AI Helps Practices of All Types Build the Dental Experience of the Future
AI is transforming numerous industries, including dentistry. While many dental offices may still operate on outdated, legacy platforms or even still use pen-and-paper to keep records, AI offers an excellent opportunity to embrace Oryx’s cloud-native DPMS.
AI tools such as perio charting, voice annotations, and virtual receptionists do not exist to take jobs away from dentists, hygienists, or the front office team. They do not replace the deep, hard-won expertise of clinicians. Rather, AI eases the administrative burden by taking away repetitive tasks, such as insurance billing or notetaking, and frees up dental experts to spend the time where it truly matters: chairside with patients.
Take it from Dr. Klose: “Oryx has enabled my practice to grow from the first day we opened our doors, and that growth has only accelerated with the company’s AI features. We’re seeing a strong uptick in production and case acceptance, and we’ve been able to improve productivity in leaps and bounds.”
